EDGE
(Middle School)
EDGE is St. John’s adventure-filled youth ministry experience for students in 6th through 8th grade. EDGE gives middle schoolers a place to build friendships, ask big questions, discover the beauty of the Catholic faith, and grow in a personal relationship with Jesus.
Through games, engaging talks, small-group conversations, prayer, and unforgettable experiences, students are encouraged to explore who God created them to be and how faith connects with their everyday lives. Middle school can feel like standing at the edge of something new—and EDGE helps young people take their next steps with Christ, surrounded by friends and trusted adult mentors.
EDGE meets Thursdays from 5:15–6:30 p.m. Come discover that following Jesus is the greatest adventure of all!
Registration opens August 1st! Our first EDGE night is October 1st.
What is an EDGE session like?
Many people are familiar with religious education for children involving a classroom approach with textbooks and a teacher to lecture. Educational studies have been done that show the best learning happens when we experience learning hands on.
Before an EDGE night begins, teens are invited into a welcoming space with food and a chance to socialize with adult leaders (called CORE Team) and their peers.
Our EDGE sessions are designed to be as interactive as possible following a set rythmn of GATHER, PROCLAIM, BREAK and SEND.
GATHER: An interactive activity used to introduce our topic. This could be a game, a skit or a video.
PROCLAIM: This is a 5-10 minute teaching presented by a CORE member on the topic of the evening
BREAK: Teens are broken up into small groups based on their grade and gender and further explore the topic through discussion or small group based activities
SEND: We regather for a large group prayer experience.
Should I enroll if my child goes to a Catholic school or is home schooled?
Yes!
While we offer educational content about the Catholic faith, EDGE explores how to live out one’s faith in the real world. It serves as a great companion to other forms of education about the Catholic faith. It also attempts to help teens to make their faith their own which has been a documented important step in young people remaining Catholic later in life.
Can my child participate if they are not Catholic?
Of Course!
We are a Catholic youth ministry program but everyone is welcome into that space regardless of what faith you practice.
